Apixaban 2.5 mg is an oral anticoagulant belonging to the class of direct Factor Xa inhibitors. It works by selectively inhibiting Factor Xa, an important enzyme in the coagulation cascade, preventing the formation of blood clots. This medication is primarily prescribed for the prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation, treatment and prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE), and for patients undergoing certain types of hip or knee replacement surgery. Apixaban offers the advantage of fixed dosing without the need for routine monitoring, unlike traditional anticoagulants like warfarin.
