Apixaban 2.5 mg is an oral anticoagulant (blood thinner) used to prevent and treat blood clots. It belongs to a class of medicines known as direct Factor Xa inhibitors. Apixaban works by selectively blocking Factor Xa, an essential component in the blood clotting process, thereby reducing the risk of clot formation without significantly affecting other clotting mechanisms. Apixaban 2.5 mg is commonly prescribed for: Prevention of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with non-valvular atrial fibrillation Prevention of deep vein thrombosis (DVT) after hip or knee replacement surgery Treatment and prevention of recurrent DVT and pulmonary embolism (PE) It offers predictable anticoagulation, does not require routine INR monitoring, and has fewer dietary restrictions compared to traditional anticoagulants like warfarin.
